Just across the bay, opposite Hawks Nest, is Nelson Bay. You can drive there but a nicer way to travel is by the small ferry. That is what we did on Monday.
The boat behind us is the one we went on to get back from Nelson Bay, the one we are on in the photo is a bit smaller.
The captain spotted some dolphins just in front of the boat but they had disappered before we had the chance to see them, of course.
After about one hour we got to our destination. First stop - the playground. To be honest, we didn´t see much more of this little town more than the marina and a few shops and restaurants. We even had our lunch at the playgound while Johan was busy running around playing. Still, a very nice place.
On Tuesday we dicided to climb the big sand dunes of Dark Point or Little Gibber, an old trail that takes you to an aboriginal midden (a place where you can find old remains of peoples day to day waste).
It was beautiful and it felt like you were in the middle of a desert...
...until you could see the ocean.
Johan loved it and wanted to climb the biggest hill. So that´s what we did, with Henry in the Baby Björn:)
On the other side of the sand dunes we found this beautiful beach. The sea was too rough to swim in but we stayed for a while and had our lunch. It had the clearest water we´ve ever seen.
The next morning, on Wednesday, we drove to a place called Seal Rocks, north along the coast. It once had a colony of seals but today there are none left in the region. This little fishing village is trying hard to stay away from all commercialisation and on the road, leading in to the town, it has "Save Seal Rocks, the last frontier" hand written on it. They have done it for over 30 years.
On the way to Seal Rocks we took the scenic tour and at one point you have to take a small ferry across a lake.
We saw kangaroos! They stood up watching us as we stopped the car but as soon as I opened the door to get out and take a photo they jumped away.
We also found the Internet. It´s 150 meters away.
After a rough ride on dirt roads (you can tell they don´t want people here... if they did they would put asfalt down...) we finally made it to Seal Rocks. Again a beautiful beach. We are really spoilt.
Jim is in the middle of the photo holding Henry. Johan to the left in the picture. He has already found a friend.
Johan is a bit hesitant in the water but Henry just loves it.

Beautiful photos once again but how can you go wrong with such perfect subjects.
