On the 10th of February we went for a beach holiday. We rented a house in Thirroul, just north of Wollongong in New South Wales. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday was grey and cloudy but warm.
A trip to Wollongong.
This is photos from the beach in Austinmer, just north of the house.
Johan didn´t swim, the waves were too high, but he loved chasing them, (and chasing me:) ).
Henry tried to make friends with the sand. He is so cute in his swim suit.
The house we rented was modern, on three levels with a mezzanine floor at the top. Very nice, but maybe not great when you have small children that wakes up in the night. A lot of running up and down in stairs... Still, it was good for us, just a minute from the beach and with a big playground just outside.
The playground.
Thirroul beach. The mountains in the background are part of the Great Dividing Range. Thursday morning and the sun finally came out. I took Johan out for a walk to catch some rays.
You can see our house where the black car is parked.
We had read some good things about the Jervis bay area, situated another hour and a half south of Thirroul, and decided to go there. We stayed overnight in Huskisson and this is the beach just opposite the motel. It was lovely to get a few days of sun. I thought Johan would like the beaches here because it wouldn´t have the high waves which means he could swim, but instead he kept saying he missed them. You can´t win.

Before we went back to Thirroul we went to Hyams beach in Jervis bay. According to the Guinness Book of Records it has the whitest sand in the world. Henry wasn´t too impressed, he fell asleep strait away.
It was all good until a woman came running along the beach telling everyone they had spotted a shark in the water in the south end. We never saw it but it was still enough for us to get out of the water.
It really was a beautiful beach.
Johan found a friend to play with.

The white beach looks like a dream to me! Except the shark of course...
